What is a Writers Open Mic? Writers Open Mics are opportunities for high school writers (poetry, prose, songwriting) to share their art in front of a supportive audience. They are great ways to practice public speaking and getting your art out there. We host one per semester, but before every Writers Open Mic we offer optional practice sessions through Writing Club. Sadly we only have time for ~12 writers to perform every Writers Open Mic and slots are first-come, first-serve; so be sure to sign up early!
When are Writers Open Mics? Next year's open mics will be posted soon.
What should you read at a Writers Open Mic? We accept prose, poetry, and new this year, songwriting. Each performer has to be around three to five minutes. For poetry you can read up to two minutes to fill the time frame. Make sure your writing is school appropriate, and please no cursing (there will be children present).
Who can come to a Writers Open Mic? Only DSA high schoolers can read at our Writers Open Mics, but anyone is welcome to come and support our writers. Tell your family and your friends!
